NC GREEN INDUSTRY COUNCIL

The green industry comprises growers of greenhouse/nursery stock,
Christmas trees, flowers, turfgrass producers, and related businesses such as landscape and irrigation contractors, lawn care professionals, arborists and retail lawn and garden centers.

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS
Trees, shrubs, flowers and turfgrass cool and clean the atmosphere by reflecting and
absorbing the sun’s heat (up to 20 degrees and more) and by taking in carbon dioxide and other
pollutants and releasing oxygen back into the air. They also cushion against urban
noise, create wildlife habitats and reduce stormwater runoff.

NORTH CAROLINA RANKS:

Second in the U.S. in Christmas tree production
Fourth in the U.S. in ornamental plant production
Sixth in the nation in floriculture production
